Club 1r is a one of a kind book club that seeks to develop skills and knowledge for creativity and better living.
Fun Fact: rēctō fōliō (the front page) has been codified into 1r, or 1r since the 17th century. We thought it was the perfect code for book geeks.
Premise
Life’s crazy tempo can be handicapping. Too many chores, too much work, too little self-development. The time we spend in front of the tv or on the internet, mostly with junk information, takes away the time we can invest in our continued development. These activities deplete our creative idleness and give us a false sense of connectedness. But, what if we committed as a group to learning a new subject a month? What if learning could be like a game of SQUIGGLE®? Would you do it then?
Format
Instead of having members read the same book and discuss one title at a time, we thought it would be more advantageous to focus on a theme instead. Members are free to pick whatever title they choose, as long as it is related to the theme proposed during the meetings. This format facilitates broader discussions, more knowledge exchange, and wider points of view. The theme to be studied is always introduced during the meeting prior allowing enough time for members to read and research.
In addition to knowledge development, meetings also embrace human’s basic social nature. Once the knowledge sharing session ends, activities focused on relaxation and entertainment are held at the discretion of the members.
