A Quiet Witness
Let’s keep the peace.
I’ll follow your advice.
Just don’t make me
fill this out twice.
I’ll hold their hands,
and wipe their tears.
Swallow the aching loss
of all of these years.
I will deal with your resolve.
Once more,
I will stay as a rock.
While the tides shed a bit of me
like a ticking clock.
I’ll sit ashore.
and offer my stay,
Where little birds perch,
as I’m worn away.
I will witness the sunset
and let the moon and the stars
cleanse me.
When the sun rises,
and the cracks can be seen,
it might just be
that you notice
what gleams within.
I rest in solitude.
In the deep blue,
the gold stars, and
the white clouds.
Unrepeatable.
Invaluable.
I feel a shift beneath the surface
As the hand of chance
lifts me up.
Maybe I’ll do the perching
this time.
Will you take me inside?
