Layover
I’m sitting here in this shitty airport,
thinking shitty thoughts.
The weather is shitty, the layover is shitty
and so is the internet connection.
I have done a fair amount of crying midair.
That felt shitty.
The seat was uncomfortable.
That felt shitty.
The delay was extra shitty.
Where am I going
with this?
I don’t know,
but I like it.
Yes, I smile when things are shitty.
I refuse to succumb to shitty outcomes.
Maybe it’s okay to have a shitty day.
Maybe the universe has a shitty sense of humor.
All I know is that,
in the meantime,
I have managed to make some people laugh,
as I sit here in this shitty chair.
Another woman seemed to be having an even shittier time.
That was surprisingly funny.
Now, I am making remarks
about the shitty NFL show playing on TV.
Now, everyone is laughing.
I’ve trained myself well.
Want to know what could be shittier?
Not having you in my life.
You frustrate me
so much sometimes.
I don’t know,
but I like it.
Maybe your version of shitty
could be my heaven.
Have you considered that?
Maybe all I was hoping for
was a hello.
Have you considered that?
I don’t know.
Do you think you could like it?
