The Threshold
The night falls
as the sun rises.
The days go by
and I can’t seem to say goodbye.
You are always on my mind.
I deleted your pictures.
The words left me.
The void crushes my chest.
I’ve given you what you wanted:
Space.
I’ve accepted this for what it is:
Disgrace.
I lie in bed staring at the ceiling
counting the days
’til I meet my higher self.
I ask them why they keep me here.
Snotty noses,
growing pains,
the hardships of becoming.
Am I the right person for them?
Even though you ran away
I still look for you in my sleep.
Except you are awake.
The communication is weak,
on a permanent break.
I am left with memories I created
in my head.
I am right where you want me to be,
in my own bed.
So far off spread
I’ve become an illusion.
I’ve taken on a new status.
I’ve taken on a new endeavor.
I’m still the same person,
slightly sadder.
You walked into my life
when I wasn’t ready.
But I made space for you,
even when everything was falling apart.
It hurts to see you go
but I have accepted your decision.
My love,
sorry for the intrusion.
I’ll let you get back to your seclusion.
