Note to Self

I woke up with a really distressful feeling in the middle of my chest, and it had its own soundtrack: Run Together, by Mumford and Sons, one of my favorite bands. I haven’t been able to remember my dreams lately. It’s very rare these days and when I do remember, it’s something like that: a phrase, a song, a physical reaction.

I just sit with it for a minute or two and get on with things. I do my tasks. I kiss my kid into a good day.

On the drive home I decide to go through the car wash. I’m rolling down the window and this young man is having the time of his life. He greets me with a beautiful smile and asks, “are you having a good day?” I smile back and say yes along with a nod. He smiles even bigger and says “Yes?” and starts singing “smooth like butter…?” —at this point I’m laughing and thinking: are you serious? I’m definitely being pranked.

Maybe not finishing and publishing my post last night was the right move. I fell asleep listening to Só Hoje, by Jota Quest. The live version. There is something about hearing the crowd singing that specific song…

I needed a little more time to write this note to myself:

A glow stick needs to be broken to glow.
