The Trail of
I decided to
hike up a mountain.
A beautiful, intimidating
mountain.
Up the hill, trying
to shed doubts.
Up the hill
collecting sounds.
The trails are unfamiliar, and
the top seems out of reach.
I take a lot of breaks,
eat a treat.
On my way
I see a Y.
Where do I go
from here?
Right.
The path seems unclear.
I don’t think I will find my way back.
Left.
I see breadcrumbs.
Maybe I’ll choose this track.
Here,
my footprint doesn’t have
a big audience.
I don’t have to keep going
up a wrinkly road.
I know my legs are strong,
but my heart is rather fragile.
Should I go back?
I can’t find my map.
Maybe I’ll find another
lone traveler.
We could go back
together.
The night is falling,
the air turns cold.
My backpack is heavy
but I can’t unload.
I’m afraid
my essentials are
not enough.
With a faint release
I look at the peak.
Surrounded by stairs,
a grand sight to see.
Tomorrow I don’t know
where I’ll be.
So, for tonight……
